1) Were there any traditions while you were on the Flaming Flashes?
We had presentations at floor show and we had to wear big white evening gowns. We did a waltz in the middle of the floor. The officers got presented wearing a crown and have to do a great bow. Also, another tradition is the RED lipstick and BLUE eyeshadow.
2) Did you ever meet Gussie?
Yes, at a floor show in 1984 for the "50th" year anniversity. She showed up and I was really excited. It was honorable.
3) Are you still involved with the Flashes?
We support them on friday night football games and attend floor shows.
4) Were there any specific rules or regulations involved?
"Red Lipstick" "Blue Eyeshadow" Judy- Amy's Mother- says they could NOT wear curlers in public. If they did they were not allowed to perform at the next football game. Amy- " We had to weigh in every week" COULD NOT WEAR UNIFORM AFTER GAME!
5) Did it make any impact on your life?
Amy-" more discipline and learning committment."
Judy-"precision and our way of learning the same thing as football boys"

6)Were there any life lessons learned?
Discipline and committment.
7) Do you have any special memories you would like to share?
Amy- " I remember when I was getting my white gown for floor show and I was so tall that I couldn't wear shoes and I went barefoot."
Judy-" It was first football game and it was in Ennis. We showed up right before halftime and it had been raining really bad but the directed made us go onto the field right from the bus and do a high kick. There was so much mud on the field and we kicked mud everywhere. After the dance we went straight back to the bus."
8) Did having your moms as former Flashes contribute to why you wanted to be apart of the team?
Judy- "Yes, because it has always been apart of my life"
Amy- "Yes, it made me work harder and made it more special"
10) What years were you on the team?
Judy- 64-65 & 65-66
Amy- 86-87 & 88-89
11) Did you have any special kind of role? Officer?
Judy- "no"
Amy- "Yes, I was a Major"
12) Is there anything else you would like to share?
To try out for officer you had to do a big pertfolio, make up routines, and have good organization.
There were always 4 majors and 1 Captain.
Amy's Grandmother was on the original Flaming Flashes with Gussie Nell and played the big bass drum.
