Jenna Zmolik
What team(s) were you a member of and what years were you on the team?
I danced at Dancin’ Ovations Dance Studio from 1999-2003, and at XD2 Dance Studio from 2003-2007. I was a member of the Forney High School Drill Team, The Forney Highsteppers, my freshman through senior year of high school. As soon as I graduated, I danced for the Dallas Mavericks Dancers from 2007-2009.
What was the size of the team?
My teams were anywhere from 8 to 40 girls.
Did or does the team size change from year to year?
Yes. Every year varies.
Did you have any dislikes about your time on the team?
Not really.
What is your best memory from your team?
My best memories from my dance teams are all the frienships I made.
What type of dances did your team do?
I’ve done jazz, hip hop, lyrical, modern/contemporary and drill team (kick, military, novelty).
Was the uniform the same as it is now?
No. I have different uniforms.
How did being a part of your team help you in your everyday life?
It taught me how to deal with people who are different than me. It taught me how to work hard to get what I wanted and to never give up, no matter what.
Did you go travel to any special places while with your team?
I mostly stayed in Texas for my team.
What do you miss the most about being a part of the team?
The atmosphere….even if practice was really hard, or I didn’t want to go that day, I was always happy when I did because it made me feel good about the hard work I did for myself. Constantly having girls around me going through the same thing was always reassuring and encouraging.
What dance experience do you have, as a dancer/teacher/director?
I’ve danced many styles of dance for 11 years and I have taught for about 4
What are some of the highlights as your time as a dancer or teacher?
EVERY SINGLE performance! Half time during high school football games, dance competitions, and timeouts at Mavs games.
What do you believe is the most important part of drill team?
Staying focused on dancing and love every minute of it! DO NOT get wrapped up in the drama of high school; keep school and drill team separate and just HAVE FUN!!!
What life lessons did you learn by being involved in drill team?
I learned that no matter what, you must always stay true to yourself. Teammates, directors, and even fans can be discouraging at times, but you must always stay positive and work hard for you.
Anything extra that we could include on a bio of you on our website?
I love to perform in any way and I absolutely love to make people laugh.
